Fuel subsidy/hike: Dino Melaye faults Buhari again, makes u-turn on mother of all protest

– Senator Dino Melaye has been expressing his displeasure over the recent hike in fuel price

– He had earlier threatened to lead a mother of all protest if the government failed to reverse the price from N145 to N86.50

– In an interview on Sunday, the senator said after the 7-days ultimatum expires, he will open a register for Nigerians to come and register their displeasure

Senator Dino Melaye has maintained that he will protest against the increase in fuel price by the federal government.

Speaking on Sunday night, May 15, on Channels Television,Melaye said he will go on the street if the federal government fails to reverse the price from N145 per litre to the former price of N86.50.

“We will open a register after the seven days ultimatum and ask Nigerians to come and register and show their displeasure and after that we will go and present the signatures of Nigerians in the register to Mr President,” he said.

Asked what the register will amount to, the Kogi lawmaker said: “It will amount to the fact that Nigerians are not pleased, Nigerians are not supporting the increase and that we are saying that this is democracy, there must be consultation, there must be negotiations with the people, there must also be partnership.

“We are not a Banana republic, we must be responsible as a people and the people must have their right to speak and ask their questions and the government must be ready to be responsive to the aspirations of the people.”

The lawmaker said he has no regret supporting the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the last general election.

“I want to say categorically that the APC is not distracted form the implementation of its manifesto but I also will want to say that we have to be very careful as a party because those signals that actually bedeviled the PDP are beginning to manifest in APC,” he said.

Melaye therefore, called on the national chairman of the APC to advise the government to reverse the fuel price.

“As a Nigerian, I am entitled to my opinion. This is not about APC but about Nigeria,” he added.
