Check out what former minister said about displaced persons

Former minster of Niger Delta Affairs, Sam Ode

The former minister of Niger Delta Affairs and executive secretary of Peace, Rehabilitation and Reconciliation Initiatives (PRRI), Sam Ode has promised assist in the rehabilitation and empowerment of internally displaced persons in the North eastern part of Nigeria.

Ode who visited the Borno state Emergency Management Agency over the weekend said he will partner with the Nigerian government to aid in the rehabilitation and reintegration of the displaced persons in the region.

He also said his organization, PRRI will proffer solutions to skill acquisition schemes for residents of the troubled states who are willingly to go return to the region.

Accompanied by his team, the former minster said he is concerned with ways to empower victims of insurgency in the region.

He added that the victims includes those engulfed in communal clashes in various states like Benue and Taraba states.

He said the effort of the organization will help the displaced person live a normal life activities.

“Our pilot scheme in the north-east is starting from selected communities across Borno State where people visited at the various IDP camps have expressed their readiness to return home and be integrated back to their normal day to day activities using traditional ventures like farming, vocational training and empowerment initiatives,” Ode said.

He also commended the Nigerian military for their efforts in clearing and liberating all communities once held by insurgents in the north-east.

Stating that the displaced person can have their lives back with the feat the military have so far achieved.

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) had earlier in a statement said that nearly two million displaced persons are currently living in formal camps, host communities and satellite camps in the liberated communities following insurgents’ activities.

The agency also said that there are 32 formal camps in Borno, Yobe and Adamawa states.
