Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, the acting national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has disclosed why he left the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for the main opposition party.
Speaking to newsmen at the Jalingo airport on Thursday, May 12, Sheriff explained that the rationale behind is exit from APC is due to the developments in the party that were not in tandem with his political beliefs and ideology, This Day reports.

The PDP acting national chairman disclosed this in the company of Governor Darius Ishaku of Taraba, Senate deputy minority leader Senator Emmanuel Bwacha, Senator Sani Abubakar Danladi and Hon Victor Bala Kona who was re-elected PDP state chairman at the party’s state congress on Tuesday, May 10.

According to Sheriff, he contributed immensely to the growth of APC and his contributions to the success of the party cannot be over-emphasised.
Following his switch to the PDP, Sheriff has expressed optimism that he would emerge as PDP chairman at the party’s convention slated for Port Harcourt.
Although the former two-term governor of Borno state believes it is God that crowns leaders, he vowed to ensure he does everything humanly possible to emerge as PDP chairman.

Meanwhile, Sheriff’s reason for defecting to PDP doesn’t quite tally with his position in 2015. The former Borno governor speaking at a news conference in Maiduguri, Borno state capital, had said he dumped the APC for PDP because the only way Boko Haram can be curbed is if the opposition party takes over in Borno state.
He said: “Many of you here today will be asking why I defected from APC to PDP having served two terms as governor on the platforms of defunct APP and ANPP. The answer is simple and straight forward, because Borno State is the least developed in the north, as it has been in the opposition for over two decades.”
