Cape Town police have called on the public to assist in finding the parents of a two-year-old boy who was abandoned at Tygerberg Hospital.

Hospital spokesman Darren Francis said the child had been left at the gates of the hospital, but was not a registered patient. He said the toddler was in the care of local Social Development workers who were looking into the case.
Although he could not provide further details, provincial departmental spokesman Sihle Ngobese said: “We are investigating the matter.”
Police spokeswoman Constable Noloyiso Rwexana said according to information received, the toddler had been dropped off at the hospital’s parking area on Saturday, by an “unidentified African female” in a Toyota Rav4.
“The security guard said they found the child in a parking area, but did not indicate which parking area.”
“The child does not seem to be able to speak any South African language.”
The case is being handled by the Bellville Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences unit.
