Zuma in Swaziland for Customs Union talks
President Jacob Zuma arrived in Swaziland for talks with King Mswati III on matters relating to Southern African Customs Union.
|||Cape Town - President Jacob Zuma on Thursday arrived in Swaziland for talks with King Mswati III on matters relating to Southern African Customs Union (SACU).
In a statement, the Presidency said Zuma had already had discussions with the Heads of States and Government of Botswana and Namibia on the matter.
“The consultations are a follow up to the discussions held by the SACU Heads of State and Government during the inauguration of the new SACU Headquarters building in Windhoek, Namibia, on 12 November 2015. It is expected the discussions will also focus on progress in the implementation of the SACU work programme as adopted by the 2011 SACU Summit.”
According to the Presidency, the SACU is one of the oldest customs union in the world at 105 years old and consists of five members, namely Botswana, Lesotho, Namibia, South Africa and Swaziland.
Zuma, who is the current Chair of the SACU Summit, was accompanied by Minister of Trade and Industry Dr Rob Davies, Minister of Finance Pravin Gordhan, Minister of State Security David Mahlobo and Deputy Minister of International Relations and Cooperation Luwellyn Landers.
The statement said consultations were currently underway to find a suitable date for Zuma to visit Lesotho.
