Senator Ben Murray Bruce fires at detractors

Following the controversy of a request for SUVs by the Nigerian Senate, the senator representing Bayelsa east senatorial district, Ben Murray-Bruce, on Wednesday, April 20, said he would not accept any SUV from the Senate.

He made this statement in a tweet while reacting to the decision of the Senate to buy 36 Sport Utility Vehicles for its members.
He said: “For the avoidance of doubt, I did not and will not accept any SUV. The only SUV, I, Ben Murray-Bruce will accept is a made in Nigeria car.”
Some of his followers however reacted differently to the post. While some supported him, some attacked him.

It was earlier reported that there was a secret distribution of the first batch of 108 vehicles purchased at N35.1m, a report which caused tension in the upper legislative chamber on Thursday, April 14.
However, Ibrahim Gobir, the chairman on Senate service committee has reacted to the claim saying the Senate purchased 36 Toyota Land Cruiser SUVs at N36.5m and not 108 as earlier reported. According to him, each of the senators from the 36 states, who are either chairman or vice-chairman of committees, got a vehicle, with the understanding of their two other colleagues.
