Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino backs Harry Kane to win PFA Player of the Year award
Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino has backed Harry Kane to win this year’s PFA Player of the Year award.
A number of Tottenham players are likely to be in the running for the prize after the club’s excellent season and Pochettino believes Kane, who has 24 goals this term, should be among them.
Kane was named Young Player of the Year last term and Pochettino joked: “I think all my players are the best! But yes, Harry is one of the contenders to be the best player of the year in the Premier League.
“All our player deserve the praise because it’s always up to them. We try to help them and provide the tools but at the end, they are the principal actors. We believe in them, in English talent and in our English players.”
Pochettino was an interested spectator as five Spurs players started for England in their 3-2 win over Germany in Berlin last weekend, although some of the gloss was removed from the national team’s display by their subsequent defeat to Holland at Wembley.
Pochettino added: “They were fantastic, and the generation England have are now in a position to achieve big things. When I watch England, I try to watch as a supporter. I never try to assess their performance because they have a great coach in Roy Hodgson and a great staff.”
