Kanye will release his new album on Spotify and Apple Music this Friday — unless he changes his mind

Last month, Kanye West vowed that his new album would only ever be available on Tidal.

But now Kanye will release "The Life of Pablo" on Friday, in full, to other streaming services like Spotify and Apple Music, sources familiar with the plans told Business Insider.

Two songs from the album, "Famous" and "I Love Kanye," were already available on Spotify and Apple Music.

This wide release is a blow for Tidal, which rode its Kanye exclusive to the top of the App Store.

Tidal has said "The Life of Pablo" was streamed 250 million times in its first 10 days on the service, and the company recently announced it had reached 3 million paying subscribers. 

But fans have been frustrated by the album's lack of availability on Spotify (30 million paying subscribers) and Apple Music (11 million), which are the two most prominent on-demand streaming services. The album saw 500,000 illegal downloads on its first day alone, according to TorrentFreak.

Re/code's Peter Kafka notes that this wide release will allow Kanye to start making money off of the streams, in addition to marketing support from his label. Since Kanye's label didn't have a formal exclusivity agreement with Tidal, Kanye was only allowed to keep "The Life of Pablo" on Tidal in an "unfinished" state, which hampered his ability to monetize it.

Friday's plans are, as ever, subject to Kanye's whims. And he has been known to change his mind.
