Agatu: Benue legislators blast Buhari, says Jihad is been waged on their people
– The Benue state caucus in the House of Representatives has taken a stand on the recent Agatu crisis
– The legislators condemned the reaction of President Muhammadu Buhari to the crisis
– The legislators also reserved harsh words for the minister of interior, Abdulrahman Dambazau
In a press conference held yesterday, March 30, at the National Assembly, the legislators stated that the situation in Benue state is a genocide by the Fulani herdsmen against their people.
President Buhari criticised for his silence in the Agatu crisis
The lawmakers said: ”We decry the lukewarm attitude of the Federal Government towards this ‘jihad’ being waged against our people by the herdsmen.
”We condemn the belated reaction of President Muhammadu Buhari and his minister of interior, Lt. Gen Abdulrahman Dambazzau (rtd) who broke their unholy silence a week after over 500 people were killed and 10 villages razed in Agatu area of the state.”

The lawmakers wondered why the federal government investigative panel to inquire into the attacks has not been inaugurated or made public.
”Who are the members of the committee? When will they commence work? Must we wait for all the people of the state to be cleansed off the surface of the earth before we act?” the lawmakers asked.
The lawmakers lamented that lamented that the recent activities of Fulani cattle herdsmen in their state is threatening the life and existence of people in the state’s rural areas.
According to them, there appears to be a calculated agenda to kill, maim and displace the people in their numbers, adding that not less than 1000 people have been killed and property worth millions of naira destroyed by the herdsmen.
”We urge the security agencies to stop the attacks, killings and wanton destruction of property by the Fulani militia. They should arrest, disarm, prosecute and jail the foot soldiers and their sponsors.
”We also call on the Nigerian Immigration Service to be alive to its responsibilities in identifying and expelling foreign nationals who constitute security risks to the country,” the statement concluded.

Recently, Abia Onyike, a People’s Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain in Ebonyi state, has expressed his concern Buhari’s body language in the never-ending attacks, kidnappings and killings carried out by Fulani herdsmen.
Meanwhile, n what might be considered an incredible revelation, Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue has said that Fulani herdsmen are not responsible for attacks in the country.
The governor said the attacks in the country were not carried out by Fulani herdsmen but herdsmen from from Mali, Ghana, Congo and Niger.
