Cosatu hails ConCourt’s #Nkandla judgment

|||Johannesburg - Cosatu has described Thursday’s Constitutional Court ruling on the Nkandla upgrades as “exceptionally significant” for SA’s growing democracy.
The federation said in a statement on Thursday that the decision would help shed light on contentious issues regarding the separation of powers in the country.
The Constitutional Court found that President Jacob Zuma breached the constitution when he failed to heed Public Protector, Thuli Madonsela’s report on non-security improvements to his private residence in Nkandla.
The court ordered him to reimburse the state an amount to be determined by the National Treasury.
Cosatu said it respects the clarity provided by the court’s ruling.
“This decision also reiterated and confirmed the president’s commitment, made during the court’s proceedings to refund the state some of the money spent on Nkandla upgrades. COSATU will take time to further study the Courts ruling in full and will give a comprehensive response afterwards if necessary,” said Cosatu spokesman, Sizwe Pamla.
He said the ruling would also strengthen democracy and assist to navigate challenges in the future.
