Are Nigerians the smartest people on earth?
– Nigerians are famous for being hard working and industrious in what we put our hands to.
– Nigerians are also very smart, but how smart are we compared to other peoples?
– Well, one Quora user asked ‘are the Nigerians the smartest people to walk the earth?’
It is certainly true that Nigerians are gifted by God with keen minds and they have an amazing knowledge of world events.
But so many of our young citizens choose to go abroad to study at university, leading to a brain drain in our country and an expanded diaspora.
Because of the increased numbers of Nigerians abroad, the question posted by one Quora user ‘are the Nigerians the smartest people to walk the earth’ poses an interesting point.

Kennedy, a Nigerian man living in the US, made a very interesting point about Nigerians’ work ethnic.
“Nigerians aren’t necessarily the smartest people in the world but more like a very motivated group of people. Nigerians are motivated to do better than their neighbors because of our inherent competitiveness and an abject hatred of being failures.”
However, Tee, one of Quora’s top Nigerian contributors, pointed out how a combination of two factors makes Nigerians particularly clever.
“Academics: Nigerians are one of the most educated immigrants in the United States. In Africa, most student have to be smart mainly because of the trouble they’ll get into if they fail an exam or failed a class. You get whooped by the teacher and also by your parents. That’s not the type of motivation you want , but hey it works.”
“Street smart: There is a big chance that whatever Nigerian you’ve met will most likely be from Lagos. In Lagos you need to be on your A game all the time. You need to be smart to feed yourself and your family, you need to be smart to avoid almost constant danger, you need to be smart to avoid getting scammed.”

However, not everyone thought that Nigerians are more intelligent than other peoples from around the world.
Andre Owubo did not hold back when he hit out at his fellow countrymen!
“We are not the smartest people on earth. Not in the slightest….but when it comes to common greed, you can count us amongst the best to ever walk this damn planet. From the most trivial of things like cutting lines in a queue, driving against traffic because the next intersection is a minute too far to corporate greed, we rule.”
“There are geniuses in Nigeria who have implemented policies/better ways of living in various works of life….while most of these geniuses are yet to reach their full potential, their abilities are also dampened by a corrupt government.”
