The Nigerian navy has said warned that recruitment into its institution is totally free.
Speaking during a visit to Naij.com office in Abuja, the director naval information, Chris Ezekobe said the navy is currently recruiting.
He added that the recruitment forms are free and can be found online on a website, join.nigeriannavy.com, specially designated for recruitment purpose.
Ezekobe, a commodore said: “We are currently recruiting, we advertised on major dailies, we advertised on radio and TV, unfortunately some criminals are going about defrauding the innocent public.”
He called on interested applicants to be wary of criminals who collect advance fee of N7,000 or N8,000 from the desperate job seekers with a promise to get them recruited into the Nigerian navy.

He also cautioned that the recruitment scam artists focus on promising the applicants that they (the scam artists) can access the Facebook page of the chief of naval staff, Ibok Ekwe Ibas, a vice admiral to get them admitted into the Nigeria navy.
Ezekobe enjoined prospective applicants to visit the site, download the instructions and make their applications.
“So my take is that the public should be aware that these forms are free and when you are in doubt to whatever, you can consult the nearest naval base or any base of the Armed Forces either army, navy or air force,” Ezekobe said.

Most Nigerians have fallen prey to the crafts of criminals who portray themselves as having contacts to the chief of naval staff or military personnel.
These people promise unsuspecting applicants sometimes pay huge sums of money to these scammers who eventually disappear leaving the applicants helpless.
