– The sheikh said Ese is of no benefit to Islam and she could not have being forcefully converted to a Muslim
– Commander General of the Kano State Hisbah Board said there was marriage between Ese and Yinusa
The controversy thrown up following the alleged kidnap and forced marriage of Ese Oruru by Yunusa Dahira took another twist as the Commander General of the Kano State Hisbah Board denies the existence of any marriage between the two.
“We are not aware of any marriage between them. We didn’t contract any such marriage, if we were the ones who contracted such a marriage we would have announced it and issued them with a marriage certificate. All I know is that we were discussing the issue of the marriage. So, if such a marriage has been contracted somewhere else I can’t say,” Sheikh Aminu Ibrahim Daurawa told International Centre for Investigative Reporting.
Also revealed in the interview, the sheikh said Ese is of no benefit to Islam and she could not have being forcefully converted to a Muslim.

“There is no need for a Muslim to force any one to accept Islam. We are over 1.5 billion Muslims in the world. So, why must we forcefully convert her to Islam? What value will someone like her bring to Islam? She is the one that will benefit from her conversion to Islam.
“And how many non-Muslim Bayelsa indigenes are living Kano for years? Why they were not forced to convert to Islam? This just shows how much the issue has been politicized and ethnic and religious sentiments have crept into it,” he added.
He however said he cannot confirm or deny allegations that Ese was hidden in the palace of the Emir of Kano
“I cannot speak on behalf of the Emir of Kano since I am not authorized to speak on his behalf. I can only speak on what I know, as it relates to Hisbah,” he stated.
Meanwhile, the alleged abductor of Ese Oruru, Yinusa Dahiru, aka Yellow has admitted to impregnating the 14-year-old girl.
According to Vanguard, Yunusa made the confession at the Federal High Court, Yenegoa, where he was arraigned on Tuesday, March 8, a five-count charge, of abduction, illicit sex and unlawful canal knowledge among others.
