Evelyn Nwabuoku, the captain of the Super Falcons of Nigeria, has assured Nigerians that her team will be back in good shape in spite of the long break they have had in recent times.
According to Nwabuoku, the coaches are doing all they can to put them in the best shape.

Evelyn Nwabuoku, the captain of the Super Falcons of Nigeria, has assured Nigerians that her team will be back in good shape in spite of the long break they have had in recent times.

The player told thenff.com: “I know that we’ve not trained for long but with the turn-out of players since we resumed and the kind of training we’ve been going through, I know definitely we will make Nigeria proud by qualifying for the AWCON later in the year.”
Evelyn Nwabuoku however admitted that while the home based players are all in camp and ready they will still definitely need the services and experience of the foreign-based professionals being expected to join the team any moment from now.
“In terms of experience we will still need the foreign based players. I am looking forward to their arrival so that they can use their experience to help the team. The home based will be able to learn one or two things from them as well.”
Nwabuoku concluded by agreeing with the coaches that there will be no automatic shirts for any player.
“That’s football. The coaches are right in saying there won’t be an automatic jersey for any player. When the foreign -based arrive, they will have to prove that they deserve the jersey. They have to show that they want to play and that they are good enough to play too.”
Nigeria are the defending champions after they beat Cameroon in the final in Namibia two years ago. But with the emergence of power houses in the game such as Equitorial Guinea, Cameroon and Ivory Coast, Nigeria has failed to impress in recent times.
The Super Falcons missed out in Rio olympics ticket following defeat to Equitorial Guinea. Naij.com recalls that camp has been open for the Super Falcons who were invited for the Africa Women Cup of Nations qualifying fixture against Senegal or Guinea. The Falcons would play the winner between Senegal and Guinea next month.
Super Falcons has won seven of the nine African Women Championships held so far, in 1998, 2000, 2002, 2004, 2006, 2010 and 2014, and won the All-Africa Games women football gold in 2003 and 2007.
The Falcons have been to seven FIFA World Cup final competitions in 1991, 1995, 1999, 2003, 2007, 2011 and 2015.
