Tension as another person killed, set ablaze in Rivers

In what is being tagged a reprisal attack, one person was killed and his body set ablaze by unknown gunmen in Buguma, Asari toru local government area of Rivers state.
On March 7, Ofinijite Amachree who is a member of the All Progressives Congress was murdered and his body set on fire in the same community in what is tagged a political killing. Vanguard reports that community sources alleged that supporters of Amachree carried out a killing the following day and burnt the body of one Baine.
“It was clearly a reprisal killing. The persons behind this did exactly what happened to the late All Progressives Congress, APC, member, late Amachree. They set his corpse on fire as well,” the source said
Meanwhile, the Rivers state government has alleged that members of the Peoples Democratic Party were harassed by military officers in Abonnema community in Akuku Toru council.

The government fired back at , Mr Segun Oni, the acting national of the APC for accusing Governor Nyesom Wike of being responsible for the violence in the state. It said his accusation was a ploy to flood the state with soldiers and use them to take charge of the March 19 rerun election.
Dr Austin Tam-George who is the commissioner for information and communication in the state alleged that a military operation took place on March 10. He called on President Muhammadu Buhari to ask the military to stop their politically motivated killing.
Captain Lazarus Eli who is the spokesperson of the 2 Brigade, Port Harcourt army barracks however denied that the military operation in the region has anything to do with politics.
