Governor Fayose says he has no rift with Justice Ayodeji Daramola

Speaking in Ado Ekiti, on March 1 during the inauguration of the state’s Judicial Service Commission (JSC), Fayose denied having any rift with Justice Daramola.

The speculated rift between the governor and the judge is against the backdrop of the petition Justice Daramola on September 26, 2014 addressed to the national judicial council, accusing Fayose and the police of involvement in the attack on judges and the state’s court workers.

Justice Daramola also accused Fayose of mobilising thugs to interrupt court proceedings, assault judges and court workers as well as destroyed court records.

“Ekiti State is my project and its interest comes first. There is no ill feeling towards the Chief Judge. We are both passionate about Ekiti as our project. Those going round town with the rumours that there is a cold war going on between us are only mischievous. Let them know that they have been disappointed already,” Fayose said.

The governor further stated that members of the revered commission were prudently selected among men of integrity.

“Members of the commission were carefully chosen and they are men of integrity, and that was why it took me some time to select them. These are people who will not pervert justice because whoever perverts justice perverts eternity for himself. The judiciary and those working there are managing a critical aspect of life,” he said.

Fayose pleaded with the state’s judicial officers and members of the commission to collaborate with the CJ to move the state judiciary forward.

The governor assured of his administration’s commitment to lay the foundation stone for a befitting office for those working in the judiciary before the end of the second quarter of this year. He also advised the commission’s members to dissociate themselves from partisan politics.

Justice Daramola is the chairman of the commission, while Mr. Owoseni Ajayi, state’s commissioner for justice, Dele Adesina (SAN), Mr. Babatunde Adeoye, Rev. Tope Popoola and chief Justin Ogunseyin are members.

Fayose, who also gave a preamble into his continued attacks on President Muhammadu Buhari, said his criticism was borne out of his love for the country.

“My criticising Buhari is to help the people have dividends of democracy. If nobody is talking because they are afraid, you will have a dictator in every leader. It is to keep people on their toes for the love of everybody,” he said.

Governor Fayose, who is consistently on the case of President Buhari was recently blasted by a former governor of the old Ondo state and a chieftain of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Bamidele Olomilua. The former governor criticised Fayose and accused him of constantly insulting the president.

Despite the former governor’s criticism, Fayose on March 1, went ahead to accuse Buhari and his ruling APC of duping Nigerians. He alleged that the president received votes by trick, saying he has denied everything he promised to the nation.
