Find my iPhone
Apple's Find My iPhone app helped a mother find her kidnapped daughter in Pennsylvania, NBC News reports.
The victim's mother had contacted the police after her daughter was "taken against her will by her ex-boyfriend," Pennsylvania State Police said in a statement.
"The victim's mother related that she had been receiving text messages from her daughter requesting help. The mother was able to track the victim's cell phone by utilizing the iCloud [and] Find My iPhone app."
The 18-year-old victim was eventually found in a car in a McDonald's parking lot in Milesburg, Pennsylvania, which is roughly 150 miles away from her home in East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania. State police say the suspect used duct tape to bind the victim's hands, feet and mouth.
"The defendant was attempting to leave Pennsylvania with the victim," police said.
The suspect in this case, 18-year-old Joseph Boller, is currently in custody. He faces kidnapping, among other charges, according to the Associated Press. His bail is set at $150,000.
Apple's Find My iPhone app has helped stop many crimes since it became free for all iCloud users in October 2011. Police departments in several states have used it effectively to find armed robbery suspects by locating stolen iPhones. Last year, it even helped police find and arrest two people who had stolen a woman's iMac during a break-in at her home.
