– The Nigeria Film Integrity Awards (HomeVida) in collaboration with Google, NFVCB commemorates the Safer Internet Day (SID) by training over 1,000 students
– The event takes place at Queens College Yaba, Lagos
– Safer Internet Day aims to reach out to young Internet users (target group 10 – 18 years old)
Following the increasing importance of the use of internet to everyone especially children and youth, for whom schoolwork, online gaming, and social networking are among the most popular activities, Nigerians on Tuesday, February 9, joined the rest of the world to celebrate the Safer Internet Day (SID) 2016.
The aim of the event is to reach out to young internet users (target group 10 – 18 years old) and share information with them on how they can enjoy the multiple benefits offered by the medium of the Internet, while at the same time, staying safe from harm and exposure to age-inappropriate content.
For the second year running, the 2016 edition of Safer Internet Day was organised in Nigeria by Google in partnership with the National Film and Videos Censors Board (NFVCB) and Nigeria Film Integrity Awards (Home Vida) with the theme “Play your part for a better internet”.

The event which was held at Queens College Yaba, Lagos had in attendance Pastor Mrs Nomthi Odukoya wife of Pastor Taiwo Odukoya, the senior pastor of The Fountain of Life Church, Mr Terry Odey, NFVCB Southwest Zonal Coordinator, and Nollywood actor, Femi Jacobs.
As part of the activities for this year’s event, a training session and a movie titled “Feisty John” was screened for 250 students and presentation of a paper on Safety Online.
Discussions were also held with policy makers including the National Film and Video Censors Board; Nigerian Communications Commission; the Lagos State Ministry of Education and the Nigeria Internet Registration Association.
