Motorists abandon GEJ road
– Goodluck Jonathan expressway still under construction
– To be completed by end of second quarter of the year
Motorists in Abuja have deserted the 3.5km Goodluck Jonathan expressway which was declared open by the FCT minister, Muhammad Bello, on Friday, February 5.
A report by Leadership suggests that the condition of the road still has a lot of improvements to be made before it becomes more usable, and this was the main reason for its abandonment.

However, on going works are being carried out on the road on daily basis by construction workers to meet up with the deadline for completion which has been pegged at the end of the second quarter of the year.
But a civil engineer with Setraco, David Johnpeople, told Leadership that motorists will start using the road in their numbers when the Power House end that links to AYA Bridge is finally completed.

He said: “My brother, it’s not that motorists are not plying this road but they are few, I only see army vehicles and others here. But I assure you that immediately the Power House end of the road is completed, motorists will start plying the road because somebody from the CBN headquarters end can easily navigate his way straight to AYA and vice versa, it is just a matter of time.”
Speaking during a meeting with Ibe Kachikwu, the minister of state for petroleum, the FCT minister said the FCT administration is working assiduously to ensure the rails are operational by December, 2017.
Bello said the Abuja rail system will complement public transportation and help reduce heavy traffic experienced at busy periods in Nigeria’s capital city.
