A paramilitary officer attached to Lagos state environmental and special offences (Task Force) was stabbed on his head and had two of his fingers cut off by commercial drivers and market touts today.
The victim, Mr. Uzan Rildwan, was attacked in a melee under Oshodi Bridge this morning.
The fracas occurred while Task Force officers were in the process of arresting commercial bus drivers who had set up a roadblock under the bridge.
Commercial bus drivers and market touts attacked both police and paramilitary officers with broken bottles, cutlasses, batons, and other dangerous weapons in an attempt to free six commercial buses who had already been detained.
Rildwan was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment after he was stabbed before he was transferred to General Hospital Ikeja for further examination.

The local police force said the fracas was ultimately the result of the introduction of a mobile court for road offences.
The mobile court, which will be placed in different locations across the state along with magistrates, lawyers, court officials, as well as police and towing vehicles, will deal with the rising number of cases of traffic and environmental abuses in the state.
Offences committed by private drivers and commercial bus drivers will be tried by the mobile court and the Lagos state government said the mobile court would bring sanity to the city’s roads.

Over the last few weeks, 24 drivers of commercial and private vehicles who contravened traffic laws were arrested and made to pay fines, and 347 were charged to various courts.
The mobile court also seized 297 motorbikes, however it is unknown whether any cars were seized.
