– A leopard wandered into a school in the Indian city of Bangalore
– Six people were injuried by the dangerous animal during a 10-hour ordeal
– It was eventually cornered and safely tranquilised by wildlife experts
A leopard broke into the Vibgyor International school in Kundalahalli in the Indian city of Bangalore on Sunday, February 7.
A team of wildlife experts and vet staff were trying to capture a wild cat for about 10 hours, six of them were mauled during the incident. According to witnesses, the leopard was running through the school, jumping on anyone who crossed his path.

Video from the school’s security cameras showed it attacking a man near a swimming pool. The man was trying to escape the leopard by climbing up a fence but was pulled down.
He is seen defending himself with the hands and a pair of binoculars, as the furious cat sinks its claws and teeth into his arm and shoulder. A scientist, a forestry employee, a television channel cameraman, a reporter and two others were reportedly injuried in the attack.

All of them were treated for minor injuries. Luckily, the dangerous animal, believed to be an eight-year-old male, were surrounded, tranquillised and taken to a natiomal wildlife park for treatment and observation.
As of 2015, the leopard population of India was estimated at between 12,000 and 14,000. Such incidents become more frequent as locals gradually occupy the leopard’s native habitat.
