– An 64-year-old woman has developed a “camel hump” on her back
– She also has multiple lumps on neck, shoulders and arms
– She suffers from a rare condition called Madelung disease typical for those who have a history of alcohol abuse
After drinking for four decades a 64-year-old woman has grown a massive hump on her back, multiple tumors around her neck, shoulders and arms. Complaining of pains and weak limbs she visited hospital, where doctors examined her and… managed to diagnose her only with the help of the internet.
The woman is believed to suffer from a rare condition called Madelung disease, characterized by the growth of fatty tumors around upper body. The confused patient admitted she is a heavy-drinker and it’s almost a year she is not able to leave the house as her muscles became extremely weak.

It turned out the unnamed woman had been aware of her deformities for five years, but as they didn’t bother her physically she avoided doctors. Later medical tests revealed she also had fatty liver disease and ketoacidosis, a rare and life-threatening condition, for which she was treated immediately.
Traditionally the treatment for Madelung disease is mainly surgical, however, doctors have offered liposuction and abstinence from alcohol as an option. Surprisingly, but the woman refused a surgery but promised to stop drinking.
