Defending champion, Chelseas FC sits on the 13th spot on the league table with Newcastle, Sunderland and Aston Villa facing relegation in the 23-week-old league.
Meanwhile, Arsenal’s manager, Arsene Wenger, has expressed his frustration with 1-0 defeat by Chelsea.
Both teams started hesitantly before the match came alive when Costa feigned a tackle by Mertesacker and was adjudged a sending-off offence.
Wenger said: “The team after [Mertesacker’s sending off] was focused, resilient and fought until the last second. Despite the disappointing result we should even more believe in ourselves today after the game.
“We played with 10 men, we were 1-0 down straight away. Normally, you lose a game like that three or four nil, when we have to chase the game, there’s nothing more dangerous than being down to 10 men.
