There are many strange objects in the world, both enigmatic and man-made, that are said to be proof of alien life. Let’s check out 7 objects that puzzle and perplex us; sometimes from the perspective of their origin, and sometimes pertaining to their purpose.
1. “Lady of the spiked throne”
This mysterious and unique artifact is dated back to 2700 B.C. It remains one of the strangest ancient objects ever found. After ensuring that it was not a fake, Italian archaeologist Massimo Vidale and his team noted the Lady’s unique look for posterity. The object is shaped like a large vehicle — most likely a chariot or boat — ending at the front with the figurine of a large bull’s head. Inside the vehicle are 15 figures forming what can be described as a procession. Some of the male figurines share the same adornments around the neck and on their head. You can also see a female figurine seated on a “throne of spikes.” Vidale’s studies concluded the Lady was created by the ancient Indus civilization, but its meaning and purpose is a mystery.
2. The Antikythera mechanism
The Antikythera mechanism is one of the oldest known computing mechanisms, perhaps the first analog computer in history, which has a highly complex design. After decades of research, historians determined that it was meant to show the position of the Sun and Moon and the movement of the planets across the sky, as well as predict solar and lunar eclipses and even key events on Earth, such as the ancient Olympic Games.
3. The Genetic Disc
This artifact was found in Columbia. It’s called the Genetic Disc, because of its detailed depiction of the human reproductive system. It depicts sperm-egg fertilization supposedly hundreds of years before the invention of the microscope. It is made from an exceptionally strong material which no one can understand how to produce.
4. Incan golden figurines
Incas and other pre-Columbian people left behind some extremely puzzling trinkets. The statues were soon found to have features that look very much like fighter planes’ wings, stabilizing tails, and even landing gears. They were aerodynamic enough that when ancient astronaut believers (allegedly) made model planes with their proportions and fitted them with propellers and (again, allegedly) jet engines, they flew perfectly. All of this has led to speculation that the Incas may have been in contact with (likely extraterrestrial) people.
In 1996, the German model aircraft constructors Algund Eeboom and Peter Belting appeared to confirm the hypothesis that the figurines were flying machines. They constructed exact replicas that were increased in size by a factor of 16 and equipped with engines and radio control systems. The two models were able to lift off successfully and also performed manoeuvres.
5. The Voynich manuscript
One of the most mysterious books in the world. Its author is unknown, it’s written in an indecipherable language, and its pages are full of inexplicable symbols and strange illustrations. What makes the manuscript so unusual is the fact that it’s written using an utterly unique alphabet which has nothing in common with any known writing system. It still hasn’t been decoded to this day.
6. The Baghdad Battery
In the 1930s, the Baghdad Battery was discovered during an archaeological dig not far from Baghdad. It was a 13-centimetre jar, with a corroded iron rod protruding from the mouth. After examination of its construction, experts came to the conclusion that this was an ancient battery, capable of producing an electrical current of 1 volt. Experts are still at a loss as to how such a technological development was later forgotten, and why nothing similar has ever been found in neighbouring regions.
7. The giant stone spheres of Costa Rica
They were discovered in the 1930s by workers clearing the jungle from a banana plantation. Local legends suggested that the mysterious spheres with their perfectly spherical shapes contained hidden gold. But when some of them were blown open with dynamite, they turned out to be empty. No one knows who made the spheres or why they did so.
