Giggs saw out the remaining four games of the season when David Moyes was fired two years ago, but he is reluctant to take the job again on an interim basis.
The former United winger, who is currently Van Gaal’s coach, wants the full backing of the board to transform the team’s fortunes. That means being handed sole control on a permanent basis and a transfer kitty to match his ambitions of re-establishing the club as a major force.
United were booed off the pitch following the defeat against Ronald Koeman’s team.
