Rivers may rise in northern Kazakhstan due to a sharp warm-up, Kazhydromet says

Tengrinews.kz — Forecasters are warning of a significant warm-up in northern Kazakhstan on April 3 and 4, which could lead to rapid snowmelt and rising river levels.
In Pavlodar Region, positive air temperatures will persist from April 3 to 6 — reaching 15 to 20°C during the day and ranging from -3 to +10°C at night in the northwest, north, and northeast of the region.

“Because of this, further intensive snowmelt, the formation of meltwater runoff, weakening of ice phenomena, and a rise in river water levels are expected. As a result, water may overflow onto roads, and settlements, residential buildings, and farm structures may be flooded by meltwater,” Kazhydromet warned.

In North Kazakhstan Region, due to inflow from the upper reaches of rivers in Akmola Region, further water level rises are expected from April 3 to 5 in the G. Musrepov and Shal Akyn districts. As a result, road flooding and overflows are possible.
In Akmola Region, temperatures are also expected to rise in the coming days — up to 17 to 22°C during the day and 3 to 8°C at night. Rain is also forecast in the region on April 4 and 5.

“From April 3 to 5, in the southern, central, and western parts of Akmola Region, further weakening of ice phenomena, river ice breakup (with possible ice jams), rising river levels, and possible exceedance of dangerous thresholds are expected. As a result, road flooding and inundation of settlements, residential buildings, and farm structures by meltwater are possible,” forecasters warned.
