Police switched to electric scooters in Almaty
Tengrinews.kz – Operational and preventive measures called “Stop Violations” are taking place in Almaty. Dozens of police officers have gone out to patrol the streets on electric scooters, according to Polisia.kz.
According to the police, scooter patrols include local police inspectors and juvenile police officers. The main focus is on areas near schools and the surrounding road network.
Following one day of work, 70 violations of electric scooter usage rules were identified, including 10 cases of minors driving scooters. Together with kicksharing companies, 7 user accounts that committed violations were blocked.
In addition, three legal representatives of minors were held accountable for improper parenting.
“Dear parents, please pay special attention to how and where your children use electric scooters. Minors must not operate these vehicles. This is a matter of their safety. Your responsibility is to prevent possible risks and violations,” said Timur Nogaibayev, head of the Public Safety Department of the Almaty Police.
New season — new rules
Earlier, the Ministry of Internal Affairs reported that new rules for electric scooter rental services are being introduced in Kazakhstan. Now each scooter must be assigned a license plate number.
Changes to the rules for using electric scooters were also discussed. Over the winter, the Ministry of Internal Affairs finalized proposals and prepared stricter requirements.
In addition, the Majilis approved amendments to the law on crime prevention in the second reading. The document includes rental electric scooters in the list of vehicles that require a registration number and mandatory civil liability insurance.
