Putin congratulates Tokayev on successful referendum
Tengrinews.kz – Vladimir Putin sent a congratulatory telegram to President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev on the occasion of the republican referendum on the draft of the new Constitution.
The President of Russia noted that constitutional reforms in Kazakhstan will contribute to the further development of allied relations and comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries.
"The results of the nationwide vote fully confirmed the broad support for your course aimed at strengthening state institutions and ensuring sustainable socio-economic development of the country," the telegram says.
Tokayev names a new date for Constitution Day
On March 17, the Central Referendum Commission (CRC) announced final voting results on the referendum for the adoption of the new Constitution. According to the CRC, 7,954,667 citizens voted in favor of adopting the new Constitution. This is 87.15 percent of those who voted.
898,099 people voted against.
The total number of citizens of Kazakhstan eligible to participate in the referendum was 12,482,613 people.
9,126,850 people had taken part in the referendum.
