Uzbekistan’s president congratulated Tokayev on holding the referendum
Tengrinews.kz — Kassym-Jomart Tokayev held a phone conversation with the President of Uzbekistan, citing Akorda.
During the conversation, Shavkat Mirziyoyev congratulated Kassym-Jomart Tokayev on the successful holding of the referendum on the draft of the new Constitution of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
“As the President of Uzbekistan emphasized, the results of the referendum clearly demonstrate that the large-scale reforms being carried out under the leadership of President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev enjoy the trust of the people. The Head of our State thanked Shavkat Mirziyoyev for his support and for sending an observer mission from Uzbekistan, including as part of international organizations,” the Akorda statement said.
Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said that the new Constitution is progressive, meets the demands of the times, and is aimed at ensuring the sustainable and comprehensive development of the state. According to him, in the course of the reforms, special attention will be paid to strengthening cooperation with international partners, especially Kazakhstan’s closest neighbors and allies.
The interlocutors also noted the positive dynamics of Kazakh-Uzbek relations, which continue to strengthen in the spirit of strategic partnership and alliance.
“The sides expressed satisfaction with the implementation of the previously reached agreements and the decisions of the Supreme Interstate Council. An agreement was reached to continue cooperation at all levels,” the Akorda statement said.
The presidents also exchanged views on current regional and international issues and reviewed the schedule of upcoming contacts.
It should be noted that on March 16, the Central Referendum Commission announced the preliminary results of the vote on the adoption of the new Constitution.
According to preliminary data as of the morning of March 16, 7,954,667 citizens voted in favor of adopting the new Constitution. This is 87.15 percent of those who voted. 898,099 people voted against it.
