Kazakhstan plans to search for oil in another region
Tengrinews.kz – Starting this year, Kazakhstan plans to search for oil in another region. This was announced by Kanat Yerubaev, the Acting Chairman of the Geology Committee at the Ministry of Industry and Infrastructure Development.
When asked at a briefing if oil had been discovered in the Djungeldy district of Kostanay region, Yerubaev responded that it was still too early to start extraction.
"To find oil, we need to find 'prospective traps,'” Yerubaev said.
“This is a complicated task, but it is necessary to carry out. Our North-Torgai sedimentary basin is very large. The northern country [Russia] is already extracting oil and gas there. The conditions for finding similar deposits are quite favorable for us. Therefore, we have laid out seismic exploration work in this area," he added.
According to Yerubaev, work is planned to begin in 2026 and finish in three years.
Currently, oil extraction in Kazakhstan is mostly concentrated in the west of the country, where the largest oil fields and infrastructure are located. The main oil-producing regions are Atyrau, Mangistau, West Kazakhstan, and Aktobe. Small volumes of oil are also extracted in Kyzylorda region.
