“There is a clear understanding of the goals and objectives”: Constitutional reform discussed for nearly six months
Tengrinews.kz — Nearly six months have passed since discussions on constitutional reform began in Kazakhstan. President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev stated this during a meeting of the working group on parliamentary reform, citing Akorda.
According to the Head of State, over this period society has generally developed a clear and correct understanding of the goals and objectives behind the upcoming transformation of the country’s highest legislative body.
Tokayev noted that he is closely monitoring public discussions that unfolded after his September Address to the Nation.
The President carefully reviews the outcomes of these discussions, expert opinions, draft amendments, as well as numerous proposals submitted by citizens regarding constitutional reform.

Earlier, in an interview with the Turkistan newspaper, Tokayev commented on claims by some experts who suggested that the parliamentary reform is aimed solely at making the position of Parliament Speaker a key role within the state governance system.
In response, the President stressed that there are no “hidden motives” behind the upcoming parliamentary reform.
