Tengrinews.kz - The Australian Navy is offering high-paying positions on nuclear-powered submarines with no prior military experience needed, according to 9news.
A job advertisement on Seek, an Australian employment website, invites high school graduates, students, and individuals from all professional backgrounds to apply for roles as nuclear submarine officers.
The position offers a full salary ranging from AUD 100,000 to 120,000 (approximately USD 62,000 to 75,000) and is based in Melbourne.
"Nuclear Submarine Officers in the Navy are tasked with anything from driving the vessel and operating nuclear reactors to tactical deployment of the submarine," the article states.
Candidates must complete initial military and professional training and pass physical fitness and medical examinations.
The role includes general responsibilities such as maintaining lighting systems, alarm systems, electrical circuits, and the submarine's power systems.
The report highlights that Australia began transitioning to nuclear-powered (non-nuclear-armed) submarines in 2021 under the AUKUS pact with the United States and the United Kingdom. Under the agreement, the navy will acquire three Virginia-class nuclear-powered submarines from the U.S. in the next decade. However, domestically produced submarines are expected to be ready only by the 2040s.
Earlier, the Australian government launched a bill in parliament that bans social media for children under 16, proposing fines of up to AUD 50 million for platforms for non-compliance.
