Tengrinews.kz - Law enforcement authorities in Karaganda have dismantled a major cyber fraud scheme, according to Polisia.kz.
The Department for Combating Cybercrime of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Karaganda Police Department detained a 22-year-old citizen from a neighboring country suspected of illegally altering mobile device identification codes to defraud citizens.
"During the search, specialized equipment disguised as a sound amplifier was seized. The device was used to make fraudulent calls to citizens of Kazakhstan, impersonating bank employees or law enforcement officials to deceive them," the statement said.

The rented apartment of the suspect contained over 2,100 SIM cards, two laptops, two mobile phones, and a tablet.
Earlier, a group of foreign nationals was detained for stealing 45 million tenge from a pawnshop in Astana.
