Tengrinews.kz - Astana akim (governor) Zhenis Kassymbek was asked how much light rail transit (LRT) travel will cost.
The mayor assured that the cost of travel on public transport "will be reasonable."
"Initially, when the project was planned, a flow of about 20 thousand passengers per day was expected. We see that this flow will be much greater, perhaps several times greater. This is already visible today. Therefore, the cost will be recalculated. I will not tell you the specific cost now, but I will say that this is public transport, we are trying to keep the cost of public transport services within the limits that all segments of the population can afford. Therefore, the price will be reasonable and acceptable," Kassymbek said at a CCS briefing.
Kassymbek added that today almost all construction work on the overpass has been completed. The entire LRT infrastructure will be ready in the summer of 2025.
"Rails are being laid now, and signaling work will begin in the spring. The first trains will arrive in August-September next year. We plan for 15 trains to arrive in the fall. Technical traffic will be opened at the end of next year, with a full launch in the working version at the beginning of 2026," the akim said.
