According to preliminary information, the earthquake occurred on December 18 at 6:11 PM Astana time (1:23 PM GMT), approximately 108 kilometers west of Taraz. The epicenter's coordinates were 42.82 degrees north latitude and 70.22 degrees east longitude.
The magnitude was 3.6, with an energy class of 8.5 and a depth of 8 kilometers.
No reports of casualties or damage have been received.
