Tengrinews.kz - Kazakh athlete David Degtyarev has become a two-time Paralympic champion in powerlifting.
At the Paralympic Games in Paris, France, Degtyarev won the gold medal in the up to 54 kg weight category. He made three attempts, with his best lift being 188 kg, securing his title as a two-time Paralympic champion.
David Degtyarev, a 28-year-old from Atbasar, won his first international medal in 2018 at the Asian Para Games in Jakarta, lifted 157 kg and earned a silver medal. All his subsequent medals have been gold.
In 2020, he competed at the Paralympic Games in Tokyo, Japan, where he lifted 174 kg and became the champion.

The Kazakhstani is also a two-time world champion in para-powerlifting: in 2021 at a competition in Tbilisi, Georgia, he lifted 178 kilograms, and in 2023 at a tournament in Dubai, UAE, he lifted 2 kilograms more (180).
