Tengrinews.kz - Russian suspected of fraud was detained at the border of Kazakhstan.
On July 18, during a coordinated operation with the Taraz Prosecutor's Office, local police detained the Russian citizen who had defrauded three residents of the city.
"From April to May, the suspect and his accomplices deceived citizens by calling from various numbers and posing as 'employees of second-tier banks' security services' and 'law enforcement officers,' claiming that fraudsters were attempting to obtain loans in their names. Using this scheme, the fraudsters, via video calls on WhatsApp, fraudulently secured loans and embezzled 19 million tenge(39 995 USD) from the victims," the statement reads.
On 25 April, a pre-trial investigation into a case of fraud was launched. The suspect was detained while trying to cross the border towards Kyrgyzstan. The investigation is ongoing.
