Tengrinews.kz - Kassym-Jomart Tokayev had a phone conversation with the newly elected President of Iran, Masoud Pezeshkian.
The President of Kazakhstan congratulated Masoud Pezeshkian on his victory in the Iranian presidential election and wished him success in his new role.
During the conversation, both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening Kazakh-Iranian relations. They discussed the current state and prospects for the development of cooperation in trade and economic, transport and logistics, cultural and humanitarian spheres. The sides also exchanged views on topical issues of regional and international agenda.
Masoud Pezeshkian won the recent Iranian presidential election with 16,384,403 votes, while his opponent Saeed Jalili garnered 13,538,179 votes.
Masoud Pezeshkian is a reformist politician who has represented the electoral districts of Tabriz, Osku, and Azarshahr in the Iranian parliament and served as its first deputy speaker from 2016 to 2020. He was also Iran’s Minister of Health.
Pezeshkian previously ran for president in 2013 and 2021 but was unsuccessful both times.
He succeeds Ebrahim Raisi, who tragically died in a helicopter crash in a mountainous area in northwestern Iran on May 19, 2024.
