By PNA/Xinhua Geneva – A report published by the International Labor Organization (ILO) on Tuesday reveals that global unemployment figures are expected to increase by 1.1 million between 2016 and 2017, passing from 199.4 million by the end of this year to 200.5 million a year later. Up from 197.1 million in 2015, a year which saw 27 million more jobless people in the world compared to the pre-crisis level of 2007, ILO Director-General Guy Ryder stated that “the significant slowdown in emerging economies coupled with a sharp decline in commodity prices is having a dramatic effect on the world of work.” Providing both a quantitative and qualitative overview of the global labor market, ILO’s World Employment Social Outlook-Trends 2016 report also explains that though the trend in vulnerable employment is improving, it is still affecting some 1.5 billion people worldwide. “The fact of being at work does not necessarily lead [...]
