Arsenal are "closely" tracking 20yo star, Serie A club wants to "triple" his wages
Arsenal are closely following AC Milan defender Davide Bartesaghi, according to Quotidiano Sport.
The Gunners bolstered their defensive department during last summer’s transfer window with the signings of Cristhian Mosquera and Piero Hincapie.
However, the club continue to be linked with defenders, and Quotidiano report that they have been following Bartesaghi ‘closely’ for a long time.
Manchester City and Real Madrid are likewise keeping tabs on the 20-year-old, which has reportedly urged Milan to negotiate a new long-term deal.
Bartesaghi only penned a €500,000 per year contract (net salary) last summer. ‘A triple jump’ is on the cards with a fresh salary of €1.5 million annually.
Bartesaghi speculation could be agent-driven
The 20-year-old has had a fantastic breakout season with the Rossoneri after Theo Hernandez’s summer move to the Saudi Pro League.
He was initially touted to play second fiddle to summer signing Pervis Estupinan, but has been the regular starter in the left wing-back role.
The Italian recently showed his versatility, operating from the left side of the back three versus Cagliari.
Bartesaghi has had a fine start to his Milan career, catching the eye with his attacking runs alongside his defensive contributions.
He averages almost two tackles per game with two clearances and two recoveries. He has completed 86 percent of his passes so far.
Bartesaghi looks a bright talent, but we don’t believe Arsenal are exploring a deal for him.
The club are well covered in the left-back department with the presence of Riccardo Calafiori, Myles Lewis-Skelly as well as Piero Hincapie.
Hincapie was signed on loan from Bayer Leverkusen last summer, but there is a conditional obligation to buy, which will most likely be triggered.
Hence, we feel the story has been driven by Bartesaghi’s agency to accelerate the process of securing an improved contract from Milan.
