When the heads of six large Swiss companies travelled to the White House last week, they came bearing gifts, a lot of them gold. I must admit that one of my first thoughts, on seeing the photo, was, “six wise men”. It turns out that political scientist Ludovic Iberg agrees, pointing out the “almost biblical staging of this delegation: the Magi bringing gold, frankincense and myrrh to Jesus”. There is plenty of speculation about the consequences of that meeting, as well as a possible end to the US government shutdown and the lack of official attendance at the UN Climate Change Conference (COP30) in Brazil.
