Fake inspection alerts: Kazakh officials warn of new document fraud scheme

Tengrinews.kz – Authorities in Kazakhstan have issued a warning about a surge in fraudulent schemes involving forged documents and impersonation of law enforcement officers.
According to the Agency for Financial Monitoring (AFM), scammers have begun sending fake notices to workplaces, claiming that employees are under inspection. These notices are crafted on counterfeit AFM letterheads and stamped with forged seals to appear authentic.
Once the recipients receive the notices, fraudsters follow up with phone calls, posing as AFM officials and attempting to extract sensitive information - including banking details.

"The Agency for Financial Monitoring does not conduct such checks, does not send personal inquiries, and does not call citizens," the agency emphasized in a statement.

Authorities urged the public to remain vigilant and verify any suspicious communications directly through AFM or the local Department of Economic Investigations.

"Citizens should cross-check any requests with official sources and avoid falling for manipulative tactics," the agency advised.

Earlier, the National Security Committee (KNB) also reported a rise in similar scams involving fake documents with official KNB symbols, including forged IDs, letters, and orders sent under the guise of high-ranking security officials.
