Kazakh and Kyrgyz deputies discussed the implementation of presidential directives
“Thanks to the balanced policies, mutual understanding, and friendship between our Heads of State – Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and Sadyr Japarov – cooperation between our countries is developing very dynamically. The frequency of bilateral meetings between our leaders directly impacts the pace of interparliamentary contacts. Our goal now is to maintain and further strengthen this cooperation,” said Yerlan Koshanov.
The Mazhilis Speaker emphasized that the Presidents of Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan have defined priority areas for bilateral integration and set concrete goals for their implementation. One of the key targets is to increase trade turnover between the two countries to $3 billion by 2030.
Nurlanbek Turgunbek uulu noted that 2024 was a very productive year for Kyrgyz-Kazakh cooperation, with visits and negotiations held at the level of Heads of State, parliaments, and governments.
“Today’s meeting of the Interparliamentary Council is not just a routine event. It is a continuation of open and constructive dialogue between two closely related nations. Parliaments represent the interests of the people, which means that through interparliamentary cooperation, we can not only maintain but also deepen mutual understanding,” said the Speaker of the Jogorku Kenesh.
During the council meeting, deputies discussed ways to strengthen partnership in the trade, economic, and logistics sectors. Among the key topics were the continued construction of the Industrial Trade and Logistics Complex on the Kazakhstan–Kyrgyzstan border, increasing the capacity of border checkpoints, simplifying the transit corridor, and the proposed construction of the "Almaty–Issyk-Kul" highway.
The meeting agenda also included issues related to investment cooperation, cultural and humanitarian ties, as well as projects in tourism, environmental protection, and climate change.
As part of the visit, the Speaker of the Jogorku Kenesh visited the national TV channel Jibek Joly and familiarized himself with the international media project Silk Way Central Asia, which broadcasts in six languages across 120 countries.
To conclude the day, the parliamentary delegations will visit the Kazakh National Musical Drama Theater named after Kalibek Kuanyshbayev, where guests will be presented with a drama based on Chingiz Aitmatov's famous work “My poplar in a red scarf.”
