Strong earthquake struck Turkey
Tengrinews.kz – An earthquake with a magnitude of 5.8 struck Turkey’s Mugla Province. There are reported injuries, and one person has died.
According to Turkish Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya, the tremors were also felt in neighboring provinces. The epicenter was located 10.43 kilometers from Marmaris at a depth of 67.91 kilometers. The quake occurred at 2:17 a.m. local time.
“Under the coordination of our governor, AFAD (Disaster and Emergency Management Authority) and all relevant services continue on-site inspections,” the minister wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
He also reported that a 14-year-old girl died during the earthquake.

Initial reports indicate no damage to residential buildings. However, the tremors caused panic among local residents, with some jumping out of windows, according to Mugla Governor İdris Akbıyık.
Yerlikaya stated that 69 people were injured.
“In Mugla and its districts, 69 people sustained injuries due to panic and jumping from heights. Fourteen received assistance on-site, eight were treated as outpatients and sent home, while 46 are still undergoing treatment and examination in emergency departments,” he added.
Mugla is a province on Turkey’s southwestern coast. The city of the same name is located on the Mediterranean and Aegean Seas and is part of the resort area known as the Turkish Riviera.
A magnitude 5.8 earthquake is considered moderately strong, but depending on the depth and proximity to populated areas, it can feel quite intense.
As a reminder, on April 23, an earthquake of magnitude 6.2 struck the Sea of Marmara near Istanbul. It was followed by numerous aftershocks. Turkish authorities reported 236 people were injured, but there were no fatalities or major destruction.
