Arsenal "positioning themselves" to sign 21yo star as £93m asking price is revealed - report

Arsenal are planning for a busy summer transfer window with several signings.

A marquee striker is one of their priority targets, and they are looking at two options in particular.

Benjamin Sesko and Viktor Gyokeres have been heavily linked, and Bild claim that the Gunners are ‘positioning themselves’ to sign the former from RB Leipzig this summer.

The Slovenian striker suffered a minor knee irritation in training on Tuesday, and Leipzig have decided to keep him out of the Santos friendly to avoid the risk of a bigger injury.

Bild claim that Leipzig are holding out for £59 million to part ways with Sesko, but the price tag could increase up to £84m.

Meanwhile, The Telegraph have brought a fresh twist to the story by reporting that the German outfit are reluctant to sell the striker to Arsenal for anything less than £93m.

Arsenal unlikely to spend £93m on Sesko

Sesko had a good 2024/25 season with Leipzig. The 21-year-old registered 21 goals and six assists from 45 games. He appears open to pursuing a bigger challenge.

Mikel Arteta’s side have been interested in recruiting him since last summer, but we don’t expect the club to spend £93m to secure his signature in the coming weeks.

Sesko has immense potential. He has tremendous shooting power and can provide an X-factor for the Gunners with his ability to score long-range goals of exceptional calibre.

However, he is far from a finished article and may require a couple of years to become an elite marksman.

With this in mind, the club may decide to look elsewhere. The focus could turn to recruiting Gyokeres, who netted a stunning 54 goals alongside 13 assists for Sporting CP last term.

The Swede can be signed for around £59m due to a gentleman’s agreement. Arsenal directors are in Lisbon this week and could speed up talks to purchase the 26-year-old.
