New details of Kyzylorda Airport transferring to Vietnamese company

Tengrinews.kz – The Vietnamese company Sovico Group has expressed interest in the Kyzylorda Airport. Tengrinews.kz learned about the current stage of negotiations from the Kyzylorda regional administration.
The regional department of passenger transport and highways responded to our inquiry. They noted that on September 9, 2024, in Astana, a memorandum of cooperation was signed between the Kyzylorda regional administration and the international holding, with the involvement of Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Transport and Ministry of Foreign Affairs. During the signing, the parties "expressed their willingness to explore the possibility of transferring Korkyt Ata Airport into trust management."
The agreement also includes cooperation in the development of aviation infrastructure, cargo transportation, the construction of a trade and logistics center, and tourism facilities.

"Collaboration with a major international company will provide a boost to the development of aviation services by Qazaq Air, including the establishment of a base fleet in Kyzylorda, the organization of cargo transportation, and the introduction of additional flight routes," the department assured.

Additionally, the department provided details on the current stage of negotiations with the international company.

"Discussions are ongoing between the administration of Korkyt Ata Airport and the international holding regarding the terms of transferring the airport into trust management without the right to purchase. No specific decisions regarding the transfer of the airport have been made," the department stated.

Thus, according to the department’s response, no decision has yet been made on transferring the airport into trust management without the right to purchase.
As a reminder, at the end of December 2024, changes in the status of Qazaq Air were announced. Samruk-Kazyna reported signing a share purchase agreement with a consortium of investors.
