As we move into December and Christmas approaches, we are still experiencing some glorious warm weather on the Costa del Sol. This would seem in contrast to those in Northern Europe where some members are struggling to find days to play in the San Roque World Series. I am sure it will improve – eventually!
The Tuesday competition saw a relatively large field of 36 players taking to the fairways of San Roque. Scoring was good with 26 of the field scoring 30 points or more. As a consequence, there was a very tight leaderboard where 33 points only placed you 18th. It’s a tough school at San Roque. A lot of members seemed to be playing target golf with 9 two’s on the day. Interestingly, the top four players receiving a prize were all non-resident. Maybe it was the sight of the sun that inspired them. However, congratulations to Stuart Agnew with a great knock of 39 points just pipping Ian Wright with 38 points.

A slightly smaller field compared to recent competitions, however 28 members played under some great weather – again!! As the pictures show blue sky, sunshine and warm weather continues. It also seems that members are getting the hang of the course with only 6 of the 28 not breaking 30 points. Consequently, the results were very close, and all decided on handicap. David Steele with 36 points pipped Graeme Willis, also with 36 points on handicap. Third place went to David MacGregor on 35 points on handicap from both Paul Charles and Radik Yamilov on the same score. In comparison to Tuesday just the one 2.

Many thanks as usual to Abbeygate Insurance, Amanda and Andy Stanford for their continued sponsorship of the San Roque Monthly Ranking. This month saw 35 players start the competition with 34 finishing due to one injury. Some very good scoring in what were quite breezy but sunny (yet again) conditions. Scoring 36 points would only get you into 10th place!! The winner on the day with 42 points was Derek Whelan who beat the long-time leader in the clubhouse Iqbal Dharamsi who scored 40 points. Iqbal was in the first group out and Derek was in the second to last group so a long wait to finish second. Well played to both Derek and Iqbal for some excellent scoring.
