Tengrinews.kz - A group of foreign nationals has been detained for stealing 45 million tenge from a pawnshop in Astana, according to Polisia.kz.
The robbery, involving five men, was meticulously planned. The suspects obtained keys to the pawnshop and waited for an opportune moment—during the employee's lunch break—to carry out the crime. Once inside, they stole 654 gold items valued at 45 million tenge and an additional 1 million tenge in cash.
Following the theft, the suspects fled the city and headed toward the western region of Kazakhstan. Police apprehended the group in the courtyard of a residential building in Oral (Uralsk), where they were attempting to rent accommodation.
Authorities confirmed that the detained individuals are foreign citizens. They are currently in custody as a pre-trial investigation is underway.
Earlier, two foreign nationals on the interstate wanted list were detained in Astana. The Russian citizens were wanted for serious crimes.
