Tengrinews.kz - A 13-year-old girl from Minnesota, Mila Vang, remains unable to move, speak, or hear more than a year after being struck by lightning on a Florida beach, according to the Daily Mail.
Mila's mother, Nalee Yang, holds on to hope for her daughter's recovery despite the challenges. The incident occurred in August 2023 while Mila was celebrating her 12th birthday with her mother and brother, Joshua, at Sebastian Inlet Beach in Florida. Lightning struck Mila, leaving her unresponsive, while her mother, who was nearby, sustained injuries but was discharged after a day in the hospital.
"When she was flipped over, she was burned everywhere. It looked like she already died," Nalee recounted.
Joshua performed CPR on Mila until emergency responders arrived. The lightning strike caused Mila severe burns and a traumatic brain injury. She was initially hospitalized locally before being airlifted to a children’s hospital in Orlando, where she spent over a year.
A breathing tube was removed a month after the incident, but Mila’s condition showed little improvement. Last month, she was transferred to a medical center in St. Paul for ongoing treatment.
Expressing relief, Nalee shared, "I’m so happy that we’re home close to family. I was so happy that we had a place to sleep and not in the hospital."
Previously, another birthday accident occurred where three people died as a result of the crash of a small sports plane in Slovenia. The flight, which was supposed to be a memorable birthday present for one of the passengers, ended in disaster.
