Tengrinews.kz - More than 6.5 thousand Kazakhstanis have agreed to posthumous organ donation, and almost 90 thousand have cancelled the transplantation, citing 24.kz.
Aidar Sitkazinov, head of the Republican Centre, said that the number of donors has slightly increased in the country. Last year, more than 200 operations were performed in the republic with the consent of donors. However, many people still treat transplantation with fear and distrust.
The reason, according to Sitkazinov, is lack of information and because of religious and spiritual prejudices.
Since the beginning of this year, doctors have registered 90 percent of refusals from relatives of potential donors.
Recently, kazakh woman saved five lives through organ donation after death.
